The Prince AlWaleed Bin Talal Islamic Studies Program is pleased to invite you to its Methods in Islamic Studies Workshop, which will be held on October 12 from 11:30AM to 5PM at the Center for Middle East Studies, Room 102 (38 Kirkland St).

This is the first out of two workshops with special attention to the digital humanities. Rashmi Singhal and Cole Crawford (Harvard University Arts & Humanities Research Computing) will explore the opportunities and potential of digital scholarship for researchers in Islamic and Middle East Studies at Harvard. Prof. Shady Nasser (NELC) will talk about EvQ, an encyclopaedia of the variant readings of the Qur’an which he is currently developing. Sharon Tai will present on ShariaSource, a flagship research venture of the Islamic Legal Studies Program at Harvard. The workshop will also address the library resources available to researchers in Middle East and Islamic Studies, with presentations by András Riedlmayer (Agha Khan Program Fine Arts Library) and Ali Boutaqmanti (Harvard Middle East Library). In the afternoon, we will be joined by Sultan al-Qassemi (Barjeel Art Foundation, Yale Greenberg World Fellow) for a conversation about his project in documenting Sharjah’s cityscape.

A second workshop in the Spring will address questions and issues raised in this workshop through specialist discussions and hands-on sessions.

The workshop welcomes researchers working on any period, geographical context, or sub-discipline of Islamic Studies (incl. Anthropology, History, History of Science, Comparative Literature, Architecture, etc).
